5 Reasons Why You Need A Pair Of Cargo Pants
Lily Ward on Wed, Feb 05, 25
"Cargos: The Swiss Army Knife of clothing, except instead of a useful tool, you end up with pockets full of snacks and random trinkets you forgot you had. Oooh! A paperclip! "
Let us guess, you've seen everyone sporting cargos over the last few years and now you wanna get involved? We're not surprised.
There's not really much legwork (do you get it?) for us to do in the way of convincing you, cargos are just cool. Worn with a t-shirt with a sweat on top, there's just something so devil-may-care about them. But for the sake of wrenching the screw of the workwear hype a bit tighter, we thought we'd just give you a five point presentation on why you should get a pair, that is a bit longer than 'Why not?'.
But seriously, why not?
1. Ultimate Functionality
First of all, let's talk about functionality. We're all familiar with the Monday morning juggle, leaving the house with your hands full of countless things and somehow none of them are your car keys. You fumble around trying to get a hand loose to get 'em out of your pocket, only to end up dropping everything and letting out the world's biggest sigh. Well, say goodbye to all that with a pair of cargos in your arsenal. Welcome to hands-free living. These pants have pockets on pockets on pockets! You'll have room for your phone, keys, wallet, snacks, and maybe even a small animal or two. Just try and remember which pocket you did put your keys in or you'll end up doing a strange rendition of heads-shoulders-knees-and-toes on your driveway tapping on all of your pockets. It's better than dropping your phone in a puddle though...
Carhartt WIP are notorious for their pocket abundant products, and have cargo styles aplenty- including but not limited to the 'Aviation Cargo Pants'. We should preface by saying... they won't make you fly- but you will look it.
2. Wardrobe All-Rounders
Shedding their days of being strictly for military men and construction site workers, cargos are the perfect pants for the everyday guy. Thanks to streetwear trends like gorpcore, having a pair of cargos is sort of a necessity- which is a great excuse to get a pair for yourself. Even if your version of a hike is walking over the bridge when the train barriers are down. Cargo pants have got you covered for any silly excursion from your normal movement that you want. You'd never get that from jeans.
Going for a walk and need to stash a map, compass, and water bottle? Cargo pants to the rescue! Need to smuggle sweets into the cinema? Well, it's not actually illegal, but cargo pants could probably do the trick if you're just a bit anxious about it (like the rest of us- we see you there with the bag of crisps shoved up your jumper).
Look, even for a night out we've got cargos that'll work- just... check the club's dress code beforehand.
3. It's a 90's style thing
Street style is on the rise, thanks to celebs who are making it look really easy to just look effortlessly cool (we'd all look a hell of a lot cooler if we had a personal stylist too). It's not just their staff working towards the look though, it's the cargos.
While some people might've thought of cargo pants as purely functional in the past, they've rebranded as a stylish option for the everyman. This recently revived 90s trend is back on the menu, pairing with almost anything and dominating wardrobes. Why resist?
So, that means new colourways beyond the classic khaki and beige as well. Come to think of it, there's probably a cargo pant for every occasion nowadays.

4. Durability - no fuss fabrics.
Scientists should study cargo pants to discover the secret of their durability and then use it to make pint glasses that don't smash, although we would all miss shouting 'Ayyy' everytime it happens I'm sure. I mean, these pants have survived everything from camping trips to 90s fashion trends (and not many of us got through those unscathed- frosted tips anyone?).
Often made from sturdy materials like cotton or nylon, cargos are long-lasting and able to withstand wear and tear. They're a good investment if you're looking for a pair of pants that will last you a while, and in this economy, who isn't?
Whether you're just cutting about town, fixing up cars or hitting the skate park - cargos will take the hit and protect those legs of yours.
5. Cargo Comfort is key
Remember that feeling of too-tight denim when you've just had a big meal? You put your jeans on beforehand, feeling all dapper dan, and now you just feel too hot, too full and ultimately- uncomfortable. We all know the key to confidence is comfort, so next time you're heading out on a date put down the jeans and grab the cargos.
Not only do cargos offer the kind of relaxation that leggings wish they had, but they also have more pockets than your phone has apps. They're basically like secretly wearing joggers all the time, except instead of thinking you're a slob, everyone thinks you're really cool. Like the Emperor's new clothes in reverse.
Cargo pants are usually designed with a relaxed fit, which makes them comfortable to wear for long periods of time and perfect for takng on mammoth meals. They're also breathable, which is a big plus if you're after using these pants for their intended use and spending time outdoors, running around and touching grass. Good on you, but I don't think James here has that in mind for these Gramicci G pants.

Just buy some already!
Look, if you're not convinced by now, we think you might just be part of that miniscule population who cargos just don't suit. But just in case we're wrong, have a look at the rest of the styles we have on offer... we think you'll change your mind and join the rest of us in the collective cargo fanclub.
