Brand in Focus: Pretty Green

Taking its name from the track by The Jam, award-winning British fashion brand Pretty Green was born in 2009, founded by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. Inspired by 1960s pop culture and combining classic British streetwear with rock and roll, the brand is all about classic and simple pieces with a modern and quirky twist. Whether it’s stylish paisley print shirts for smarter occasions or casual tees and track pants, the iconic brand brings classic mod clothing into the spotlight with each new collection they launch. Today, we’re taking a peek at some of our favourite pieces from the brand that simply belong in your wardrobe this season.

Classic Pretty Green Paisley
The vintage paisley print arguably has to be one of the brand’s trademarks. Perfect for those who want an upgrade on the classic formal shirt, but also for those who are afraid of full on statement prints, paisley is the ideal compromise between the two. Take the Lescott Paisley Print Shirt, for example. The allover print instantly transforms the simple black button-down shirt into a sophisticated, standout piece that will be a timeless addition to any wardrobe.
Over the years, Pretty Green has created countless pieces that feature the paisley print, not just in formal clothing but also with more subtle nods in their more casual pieces too. Their classic tees often feature the iconic print, whether it’s displayed within the logo graphic such as the Liberty Floral Applique T-Shirt, or discreetly featured as the inner lining of their most stylish jackets and coats.
Pretty Green Outerwear
Given that we’re now in the AW20 season, it’s no surprise that a key focus in the brand’s newest pieces is outerwear. With functional outerwear featuring heavily in countless AW20 collections on the runway, it’s currently all about technical fabrics and plenty of pockets. When it comes to the offerings from Pretty Green, there’s plenty to choose from. One of our favourites is the Festival Jacket, which has a myriad of pockets along with the signature paisley print lining the hood. While festival season has well and truly passed, this jacket certainly makes it possible to channel those Glasto vibes, and poncho-esque outerwear is a trend that was spotted in the collections of designers such as Nicholas Daley earlier this year. The brand still sticks to their roots with the classic parka too, with simple, modern designs that are anything but boring.
We’re expecting the Cooper Short Parka to be a hit this season, as it captures the functional outerwear trend perfectly with flap front pockets, stand up neck and full zip closure, along with a subtle wax finish to bring everything together. Perfect for that unpredictable British weather.
Muted Colour Palettes
Pretty Green has often been at both ends of the spectrum with their colour choices - with some of their pieces featuring bold and vibrant colours, and others taking on a softer and more subtle look. Their jackets often make use of an almost military style colour palette, with khaki and black featuring regularly, fitting in nicely with the utility trend we’ve seen so much of this year. The autumnal colour palette for this season combines the traditional khaki, but there’s also plenty of navy, along with a few softer colours thrown in. The Tilby Track Top draws inspiration from the classic 80s tracksuit but is given a fresh twist for 2020 with the help of contrasting stripes and the understated Pretty Green logo to the chest, while the soft khaki also creates a more subtle look when compared with the bold reds that are often seen in track tops.
On the subject of softer colours, we love the Bobby Pique Tipped T-Shirt in this smooth purple shade, a colour we don’t always see that often when it comes to menswear. Pretty Green t-shirts are a popular casual choice, after polos. Now that many of us are working from home again, it makes for the ideal 'workplace attire'.
If it’s classic, timeless pieces with a quirky, 80s casual twist that you’re looking for, Pretty Green is almost certainly the brand for you. There’s plenty more to see when it comes to our newest arrivals too, so make sure you check out the full collection today.
